I’m a Postdoctoral Researcher at Tyndall National Institute in Cork, Ireland. I work with the Integrated Power & Energy Systems (IPES) team, part of the International Energy Research Centre (IERC). I completed my PhD in Artificial Intelligence at the School of Computer Science, University of Galway, supervised by Dr. James McDermott and Dr. Colm O’Riordan. My PhD focused on building regression models that people can read and understand, and that still work well when pushed beyond the data they were trained on. I used genetic programming to build these models. I also studied how to measure and reduce prediction error, and compared model-selection methods (AIC, BIC, MDL, PSM) to find which one picks models that hold up best on new data. I built automated, repeatable test pipelines across 20+ datasets. I also applied this work to ETSAP-TIAM, a global energy-system model used for long-term planning, including managing data and checking the model before use.

Beyond work, I find joy in exploring creative projects and sharing knowledge through my research!
